4.68 Kw Stand Alone Solar Power System
Living off the grid for this household comprises of 24 x 195 Watt Suntech solar panels, Outback Flexmax 60 Amp MPPT solar charger, 2 x Outback VFX 3048E 3000Watt/ 90 Amp inverter/charger and 24 x 830 Amp-hour Sonnenschein sealed gel deep-cycle batteries.
The Outback inverter/charger automatically detects when the generator is present and switches the load from the inverters to generator, whilst recharging the batteries. The Outback inverter/chargers are ‘combined’ together meaning that 6000 Watts of continuous power are available. They also ‘detect’ how much power is required and switch on unit off, if required to save on electrical energy.
This Off Grid Solar system supplies all essential power to a household of 6 people including 1 fridge, 1 freezer, lighting, kitchen appliances, washing machine, computers, entertainment, power tools etc. It was a solution of getting reliable electricity to a site where the main electricity was more than 1 kilometre.
The system was installed in late 2012, the owners are a testimony that living off the grid is truly possible. A system of this size means that they have ample power for all their appliances without the potential of a blackout. They are able to monitor their electricity generation/consumption and know exactly how many days worth of power stored in the battery bank.
