A Stand alone solar PV (photovoltaic) systems is an off the grid electricity supply system that operates independently from the main electricity grid. Using solar panels, invertors and your current switchboard we can turn your home into its own energy company.

How does it work?

A stand alone solar PV system works by converting the sunlight reflected on solar panels in to DC electricity (the same as grid-interactive systems).

The DC electricity is then stored in a battery bank and is controlled by a solar charger (either a MPPT – Maximum Power Point Tracker or a switched solar regulator PWM – Pulse Width Regulator) which ensures that the batteries are properly charged.

The energy stored in the batteries is converted into  the 240 volt alternating current (A.C) that we are all familiar with and use on the grid. The invertor transforms and delivers the 240 volt electricity to all of your normal house hold appliances including power tools and air conditioning.

What are the advantages of this system?

A standalone system set up can take some planning and thought. But, the benefits in most cases far outweigh the costs in both time and money. In most cases our clients find that the advantages of a stand alone PV system are;

  • There are can be little or no ongoing running costs.
  • If you live in remote locations it may be more cost effective to install than getting mains electricity connected.
  • no ongoing electricity bills or dealing with electricity companies
  • The stand alone systems are designed to store days’ worth of electricity so, in poor weather conditions such as after high winds or cyclones it is still possible to draw ample amounts of power.
